Oak Executive Desk, French, Louis XV Style

What an outstanding large solid quarter-sawn oak custom-made executive desk in the French style of Louis the XV.  This desk displays superior quality in design, materials and construction.  The top has a wide edge with curved corners incorporating gadroon or rope carvings.  Given the enormity of the desk, the boldly shaped legs have crisp delicate carvings on the knees and feet.  The 2 ends of the desk have a carved central medallion with a sprig of oak leaves with nuts on one side and another sprig of leaves on the other, all resting on acanthus leaf carved design.  The front and back of the desk are identical.  Each has one long central drawer with a smaller, deeper drawer on either side.  All the drawers are hand dovetailed and retain their original fancy cast brass pulls.  Notice the intricately carved medallion on each center drawer.  These mimic the same décor on the ends, but in a smaller, more delicate manner.  All the drawers open smoothly.  There is a 10″ professionally replaced gadrooned carving along one side of the top edge.  This is only noticeable upon very close examination.  The desk frame is extremely sturdy having no breaks.  The finish is in excellent condition.  What a fabulous commanding desk!
