This oak and cast iron stand was designed to hold large reference books such as a dictionary.  The stand has multiple adjustments to accommodate the reader.  The oak shelves have a lip on the edge to rest the book.  There is an adjustment that allows the book supports to stand at a variety of angles for reading.  Each side is counterweighted to compensate and allow for the book to remain open and lay flat whether you are just beginning or finishing reading large sized books.  The shelves also adjust in width for wider or narrower books.  In addition, the center rod adjusts up or down depending on the needs of the reader.  All the adjustments are made of heavy cast iron and they work smoothly.  There is a small piece of casting missing underneath one of the oak shelves but this does not affect its functionality and is only visible when looked at from underneath.  Notice the fancy cast iron shelf below for storing your dictionary or reference books.  The stand rests on cast iron legs with their original casters.  The oak shelves are in excellent condition.  What a clever piece for your home, office or library.
