Empire Mahogany Bookcase, China Cabinet

This handsome 2 door mahogany bookcase is from the Empire or Classical period.  Notice the simple, yet elegant design combined with the use of dramatic flame mahogany woods.  The full columns on either side have intricately designed capitals and bases made of cast brass affixed with ormolu or gold gilt.  The double doors have their original glass panels in the upper part of their frames.  The bottom third has a recessed panel – perfect for displaying and general storage.  The door retains its original cast brass key escutcheon and heavy duty working lock with key.  This cabinet could easily serve as a china cabinet as well as a bookcase.  Inside the doors are 4 original adjustable shelves, each measuring 12.5″ deep and 48″ wide.  The bookcase is in excellent condition.  The finish has a deep, rich color and patina.
