This beautifully custom made bar was constructed by the Charak Furniture Company of Boston, MA. They were highly regarded and known for making exquisite period reproductions. Every piece was labeled, numbered and dated. This piece is dated 1939. The style and design dates from late 1700’s. They were referred to as mixing tables and employed the use of marble to set and mix alcoholic drinks in order to not ruin a wooden surface. The choice of mahogany wood and quality of inlay work is superb. The top has a reeded edge and conforms over the roll top. Notice the inlay to the right and left of the brass pulls on the roll. The roll glides smoothly. Even the vertical sides next to the marble have an inlaid pattern indicating incredible attention to detail. Notice the two tall outside drawers with rolled fronts. These are called bottle drawers and were intended to hold decanters and liquor. Their inlay work and use of burled mahogany is exquisite. The exterior sides of the cabinet repeats the inlay work seen on the inside. Below is a long drawer having their original carved and inlaid knobs and lock. The front of the drawer is extensively burled with delicate string inlay. Even the bottom edge of the drawer has a narrow, fine inlaid pattern. The cabinet/bar rests on tall, slender, tapered Hepplewhite legs with additional inlay work. The finish is original and in fabulous condition having a deep, rich color and very desirable patina. What a beautifully rendered piece with exceptional detailing – perfect for your home or office!

Check out this incredible early paper mache’ Victorian music stand. Its quality and condition is superb! The stand is designed to hold sheet music. It retains its original brass label which reads “Chinnock’s Patent, Screen”. The area which supports the sheets is extremely curvaceous and measures 17” wide by 14” tall. The hand painting uses mother of pearl throughout to highlight the gold flowers, grapes, leaves and vines. The pedestal has cast brass hardware which locks the angle of the music holder and also adjusts its height form 32” tall to 48” tall. The pedestal has sprigs of the same floral painting near the top. Along the pedestal’s bulbous column and on the platform base, the hand painting incorporates shades of green and dark reds. The base is supported by round feet, also decorated. The stand is quite sturdy, having no breaks or repairs. There are 2 tiny screw eyes on the back which we are not certain what their function was – possibly a wire to further secure the sheet music. The music stand functions extremely well without it.

This handsome solid mahogany roll top desk is a very desirable size for your home or office. The desk has a tall “S” shaped tambour which rises and lowers smoothly and is in excellent condition. The desk retains its original brass key escutcheon and working lock with key. Inside the desk has 27 various sized cubbies for storage. There are 2 pencil ledges as well. Look closely and you will see that one small pencil drawer on the right is missing. Also, upon further close inspection you may notice (or not) that a drawer would have been located in each of the 2 bottom cubbies. This hardly detracts from its function or aesthetics. On either side of the roll top are narrow cut out openings. These were originally intended to insert notes, letters, bill, etc. into the desk interior while the top is locked and secured – clever, huh. The slots also added ventilation to the interior of the desk. Below the writing surface are 2 banks of drawers with beautifully carved wooden pulls and recessed paneled fronts. Each has a slide out writing surface. There are 4 drawers on one side. The top drawer retains its original lock. The other side has 2 drawers and one deep file drawer. This top drawer is missing its lock. Notice how even the desk chair opening has beautiful recessed and raised panels. The panels are repeated on the sides and back. There is an inch round hole in the back of the desk, most likely done to accommodate computer wires. This can be fixed for additional monies if it bothers you. The desk finish is in excellent condition. It comes apart in 2 main sections for ease in moving.

This sweet looking desk is often referred to as a lady’s writing desk due to its small size and delicate looks. The desk was designed to be viewed from all 4 sides. The back is as lovely as the front. Notice the serpentine shaped top and sides, along with the top storage compartments. Even the 2 tiny doors are concave to accentuate the desired curves. On the outside of each door are 3 small vertical file slots for storage with 2 additional wider slots in between the doors. The writing surface measures 28.5” tall. Below that are 2 small serpentine shaped doors having their original fancy cast brass pulls. There are delicate applied carvings of leaves or vines scrolling between the drawers and also on the knees of the tall, slim cabriole legs. The desk retains its original finish which is in excellent condition having a deep, rich color and desirable patina. There is a small 1” long burn close to the door on the right. What a sweetie this one is!
